Students who wish to start organ lessons are advised that they should be at the middle grades of the piano. This is purely making sure that they have the keyboard technique ready to play. Students who are not at this stage should aim to improve their technique on the piano as it is much easier to master on that instrument.

We aim to progress students through the basic learning materials required to transfer to the organ in a year. This includes manual technique in modern legato playing and early detaché playing; this is combined with learning how to play the pedals. This is followed by teaching independence between the hands and feet; finally playing both hands and feet together. Studies are then focussed on the ABRSM higher grades and service playing skills.
